Before construction of any kind commences, whether it is a house or commercial property, site works is an essential process that needs to be undertaken. It could be that the land still has trees, tree stumps or bushes that need to be cleared, or the site needs to be excavated before the house pad, or shed pad is laid in preparation for construction. Siteworks is essential, and Dobson Excavations have the equipment and expertise to prepare the site for you to start construction without any delays.

    Site Clearing and Excavations

When you look for site clearing, we have equipment of various sizes and capabilities to cater to the array of your demands and sites of different sizes. Some sites may require simple land clearing while others may be more involving. We have 2-ton, 8-ton, and 21-ton excavators to meet the various challenges we are likely to encounter when preparing the land for construction.

When you visit us with a request for siteworks, we will analyse the type of construction and preparations necessary before the construction crew comes to the site. Once we have agreed on the siteworks prices, we will immediately start the process of getting the land ready because we understand any delays can prove costly for any construction project.

Our excavators come with an array of attachments which are handy for digging trenches, removing tree stumps with deep roots, pool excavations, rock hammering, and hole digging. In cases where existing infrastructure are supposed to be demolished and removed, such as old buildings and pools, we have 6-wheeler tippers which we will use to remove the debris to a suitable location.

Our dog hire can be used together with the 6-wheeler to increase the load to 22 tons over the 12 tons that the 6-wheeler carries. This will reduce the number of trips to be made between the damping site and the construction site, and ultimately lower the siteworks prices. We will also transport materials, such as sand and soil, to backfill the holes left behind.

Our roller vibrating double drum will be used for compacting the ground in readiness for the heavy equipment and materials needed for construction.

We service the entire Darwin area and surroundings, such as (but not limited to): Darwin, Acacia Hills, Adelaide River, Batchelor, Bees Creek, Berrimah, Blackmore, Coconut Grove, Coolialinga, Darwin River, Durack, Finniss Valley, Fly Creek, Freds Pass, Girraween, Gray, Herbert, Holtze, Howard Springs, Hughes, Humpty Doo, Johnston, Knuckey Lagoon, Lambells Lagoon, Livingstone, Lloyd Creek, McMinns Lagoon, Mitchell, Noonamah, Palmerston City, Rum jungle, Shoal Bay, Southport, Stapleton, Tumbling Waters, Virginia, Wagait Beach, Weddell, Winnellie

    Driveway construction

Most major construction sites require heavy machinery to handle the excavation and construction process. These earthmoving machines greatly compact the soil, and this affects the health of lawns and gardens.

In a bid to ease movement of trucks and materials, especially if the ground and soil composition does not support heavy equipment, Dobson Excavations will construct the driveway. We will also ensure we bring in materials to support the current soil composition, to allow for better compaction and stability.

    Trench digging for utility installations

Most site work contractors prefer starting a project at a site that already has important utility cables, such as water pipes and electricity, installed because it makes their work easier and faster. One of the siteworks that we undertake includes using our diggers to dig trenches for the cables. For areas with limited access, or those places where buildings prevent easy movement of large model diggers, we will use our mini excavators, which are just as effective at digging trenches for utility cables.

The installation of soak wells, leach drains, and septic tanks

Some site work contractors prefer having all the underground installations handled before the building is erected. This is why Dobson Excavations considers the installation of vital waste management systems a critical part of site works.

Before we install these facilities, we will go over the design of the building with you and determine the ideal place to situate these drainage systems. We also appreciate that soak wells require the removal of large volumes of soil that need to be disposed of offsite. When determining the best location for these facilities, we will ensure that access to the dig site is not compromised and that no unnecessary soils and materials are occupying space that should be used for construction materials. Our team not only has the equipment, but the expertise to successfully install soak well and septic tank systems. Doing this early makes it easier for contractors to proceed with the rest of the construction without taking time and personnel off the project to deal with leach drains, septic tanks, and soak wells.

    Establishing a limestone retaining wall

It is natural to want to establish the boundary of the land within which the site works is taking place. This will ensure that the materials are being deposited within the boundaries and that no damage is being caused to another person’s property. It is also easier for contractors to plan the movement of machinery and trucks in and out of the site when they have the boundaries in place.

The limestone retaining wall also provides privacy, particularly for major projects that are to be unveiled to the public when complete. It is a great idea to keep people guessing, and the best way to do this is by sealing off the area.

The wall can also act as a barrier against the downward movement of soil and other materials, especially when it rains, and if the site is on lower ground. This can easily slow down the project since workers will spend too much time clearing debris from the site.

Construction of the limestone retaining wall will require the movement of large volumes of soil and sand. Dobson Excavations appreciates that adequate preparation is necessary before the delivery and laying of blocks for the retaining wall. Our team will work together with the contractors to ensure everything is in place before the construction of the retaining wall begins.

    Land subdivision

Land subdivision is common in and is a component of the site work. Some of the activities necessary include land clearing, rubble disposal and land levelling. Depending on the size of the subdivided land, we will deploy the right size of excavators to begin work on the subdivided property in preparation for construction. For sites where Dobson Excavations prepares the house pad, a certified certificate will be issued upon completion. This certificate shows that all construction requirements were met and that the pad has been tested and certified as safe for building to commence.
