Firebreak is a strip of land around your boundary/House that is cleared of grasses, trees, shrubs, ect. Bare mineral earth is required even over hanging trees, bushes and shrubs must be trimmed or removed. Firebreaks provide safe access for fire fighters to enter your property and use firebreaks for safety for themselves and vehicles where the fire will not travel under the vehicles.
Completion of firebreaks are required on or before 30th of November, 2017 and maintained until 31st of May 2018. If not then fines maybe applied to your property with failure to comply as most councils will be sending staff to check. Firebreaks need to be clear of flammable material and to a minimum of 3 metres wide.
